Canadian residents inheriting US accounts
Contrary to popular belief, Canadians can inherit US based accounts.
There are many iterations of this scenario, all of which we can help with. As just one illustration, consider the case of Tony. He, his parents and siblings were all born in Canada. The family moved to the US when Tony was in his late teens – but he decided to stay north of the border. His parents named him and his siblings as equal beneficiaries of their assets including retirement accounts, investment accounts and a US-domiciled trust.
Years later, Tony’s mother and father passed away. We were able to manage the inherited assets for Tony on both our US and Canadian platforms as part of an integrated wealth management program.
