Client Service Assistant

“I need more than help.”

Rachel had been exercising her predisposition to offer assistance, and the answer of her former high school field hockey coach, Alanna, surprised her.

Alanna needed more than help, because she was retiring.

So Rachel took over her job.

She herself had recently retired – from competitive field hockey, having just graduated from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax after playing varsity there for five years. Now several years into her coaching gig – alongside her full-time role at Sandhu Wealth – Rachel sees the same truth in both jobs: there is nothing better in the world than helping someone achieve something.

“One of biggest things I have learned in coaching is that people learn in different ways,” says Rachel. “Some people have to see things and some have to hear it. Some want details and some want high-level. On Harp’s team, I communicate with and educate our clients in the way they need me to, helping them get where they want to go in life.”

She is also known as Harp’s “wrangler” – as the manager of the office workflow, ensuring everything gets done.

Outside of the office, Rachel has been a big skier since she was little, with a preference for Big White in Kelowna. In the summer, she seeks as much time as possible on the ocean or a lake, and with family and friends.

She relays one special anecdote from her coaching experience, about a big game decided by penalty shots and a young player who didn’t want to be one of the shooters – because the opposing team had once cut her. Rachel convinced her to take part. Naturally, she scored the winning goal.

The lesson, from the coach’s perspective? “Have faith in yourself.”
