Uriah Kane, BA, CFP®, CLU
Estate Planning Advisor, Raymond James Financial Planning Ltd.
Uriah loves interacting with people. This desire, along with his genuine thirst for adventure, landed him in Southern Mexico between 1997 and 1999, where he lived and volunteered his time in various service and humanitarian aid efforts. Add to that uncommon background the fact that he moved around constantly in his childhood as his father worked as a Warden in various federal institutions for Corrections Canada, and we can understand why Uriah is not easily spooked by challenging situations.
As Raymond James’ senior insurance and tax planning specialist for British Columbia, Uriah engages in highly technical discussions with clients’ lawyers and accountants, as part of his role to explain and facilitate advanced corporate tax planning strategies for clients of the firm.
Here is the commitment Uriah brings to Harp’s clients and their supporting advisory teams: “These concepts may not always be simple, but I will make them understandable. The strategies I specialize in, at times, may be foreign to some clients and their accountants. With that in mind, I am completely committed to one of the core principles of Harp’s brand foundation: We speak plain English.”
Uriah laments the fact that, when it comes to insurance, there isn’t enough meaningful dialogue between financial planners and accountants. But he intends to do his part to fix that. “Some of the most meaningful work I have done is reaching out to accountants to help educate them on why insurance planning makes sense. On how it can be used to protect the client’s financial legacy – which involves building and protecting their wealth, and paying less tax. Who would have thought that some of the most progressive, tax-efficient financial planning we can offer clients happens to include permanent life insurance?”
Owing to his time living in Mexico, and a university minor in Spanish, Uriah is fluent in that language. Outside of work, he is actively involved in a number of administrative roles with his church, and volunteers his time in the community as an Executive Director with the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive. He enjoys spending time in the great outdoors with his wife and three daughters, loves a good card trick, and considers himself a bit of a foodie.
